Hi Caroline, that’s a very interesting observation. I’ve not explored that in the book – should have done my blog, to get these insights, before writing it! When I worked, briefly, in Uganda in the early 80s I can remember several young people on the wards with ‘slim’ – tragically succumbing to what was then a mystery illness. That was just before the first papers were published in the US describing the disease that went on to be known as AIDS.

What an interesting post. I've been enjoying hearing about The Ghosts of Eden - it sounds like a truly epic tale!

One thing that occurred to me and on which I was going to comment yesterday but ran out of time - there seems an almost ironic symmetry between the notion of Eden as the birthplace of humankind and possibly as the birthplace of 'slim disease' as mentioned in your first post. Is this connection explored in the book?

Fascinating blog today, Andrew. I'm becoming aware that there are many layers to your writing and to this story.
"Abstruse" is my word of the day (now that I've looked it up in the dictionary) :-)
