Thanks Caroline, answer is ‘definitely not’. Fiction and non-fiction are separate worlds and so far as publishers are concerned, ‘never the twain shall meet’.

With regards to the Richard and Judy thing – I was under the impression that their contract was not being renewed – perhaps I am wrong. Whatever, they did one previously with MacMillan, and I wouldn’t hold your breath.

I’m looking forward to reading Crooked Mile. I wondered whether your background as an established non-fiction writer would have made it easier to pitch a novel to agents – obviously not!

I just heard that Richard and Judy are setting up a new book club featuring a debut novel every month, so hopefully that will be a positive step towards sparking more interest in first-time writers.
