I've already read THE BLACK PRESIDENT and kept up with your correspondence with Robin on Lobster (to which I regularly contribute). Funnily enough, my latest Lobster article compares Suez and the Iraq War and mentions Iran Contra in passing. I'm fascinated by the whole way that the Iranian revolution divided the US intelligence community until the collapse of the Fao Peninsula to Iranian forces found the Pentagon grassing up North to the Lebanese press. It's also really timely that you're publishing your book during this Presidential election in the US, what with Obama (in my dad's words) being "black but definitely not a brother." My dad's white and from Ballysillan in North Belfast by the way! He's also 79 and did none years in Airforce Intelligence (mostly based on Cyprus and in Ankara) before becoming a journalist. I think it might be in the blood. Anyway, I'm glad that your a Lindsay Anderson fan as I've recently had a similar excahnge with the movie director Alex Cox whom I know slightly. OH LUCK MAN is my mate Dave's favourite Lindsay Anderson film and I'm trying to track down a copy of that, too, through his Iranian cousion in Paris but he's off getting married in Tehran at the moment. THE BLACK PRESIDENT should do well. From a marketing point of view it will be sellable whether Obama or the Muppet get elected but because it's a GOOD BOOK it will also set you up for your next one.
