Rick

Sorry I have been so long in replying.

Being a relatively new author with Picnic, I am not 'au fait' with the back story of 'Black President', but I assume it all started long before Obama was even a blip on the international horizon. Congratulations anyway, with a title like that you are bound to attract 'mega' attention before anyone has even read a word. I'll really look forward to reading it.

Great to hear your and Caroline's discussions about historical fiction and following the threads and facts to a point where one's creativity gets fired up. Somehow you both are rekindling my spirits to try another round of historical work after I get this proof correction of Black President wrapped up! In any case, I'll happily look forward to reading your Something Hidden and Kill-Grief, and of course Politics and Paranoia (and all other interesting Picnic books coming out!).

Thanks for the comment Caroline. It could well be an effective publicity boost - so maybe I should be actively searching for that 'west country nonagenarian'.

The book sounds great - I love historical fiction that shows its own interpretation of real events. If someone does come up with the definitive answer between now and publication, I'm sure it wouldn't negate your story - it would just create interest in the issue and be good for publicity. Even so, I know how you feel about hoping real life doesn't overtake your fiction!
